This page will show the members within a given radius from any UK postcode.
The code is very approximate due to there being no real way to determine a precise position for a postal area or district. Some rural districts are pretty big being several tens of kilometres from one extremity to its opposite. The two main ways would be geographical centre, so the point equidistant from the northernmost, southernmost, etc points of the area or some way of weighting things towards denser population centres. Since the value used is just the first part of the postcode, also known as the ”outcode”, things are quite rough and ready anyway.
Added to that, someone may live close to the boundary of a postal district so their actual location may be quite different to that used for the code. The data bubbles on the chart are located at each postal district’s coordinates.
The code uses a spherical distance calculation that is accurate to around 30m at UK latitudes. There are more accurate methods but given the above points they aren’t necessary.
Consequently this is more of a “That’s interesting” excercise than an accurate representation.
Enter the first part of a postcode: “M16”, “CA12”, “NE2” etc., then select a radius. If there are any members within that radius the chart will update when you select/change the radius. The entered postal district (if there are any members within that area) will be coloured a dark red.
